Updating the Databases

Updating the N.C. Nutrient Management Software with the new Manure Nutrient Content numbers effective July 1, 2013. In order to be able to use the new [manure nutrient content] planning numbers with the N.C. Nutrient Management Software users will need to download an updated data file for the Program. Use the following instructions.

*Note: if you are running Window 7, stop after Step 5) and read additional steps listed below the 7 main steps.

  1. Download the file most recent database file (click here) to a temporary location on your computer or storage device.
  2. Rename the downloaded file to ‘NRCS.mdb’ by removing the text code that is the database version (example: 7.1.13) and changing the extension to ‘.mdb’. The file must appear exactly as ‘NRCS.mdb’ or it will not work.
  3. Right-click on this renamed file [NRCS.mdb] and select ‘Copy’.
  4. Use the ‘My Computer’ or ‘Computer’ icon to navigate to the following file location: C://Program Files/Nutrient Management.
  5. Paste the renamed file [NRCS.mdb] into the ‘Nutrient Management’ folder. You should receive a message indicating there is already a file with the same name in this location. Choose the Copy and Replace option to replace the existing file (within folder) with this new file you have just renamed. If you do not get this message the file may not be named exactly as ‘NRCS.mdb’. If you are running Windows 7 the proper location for the file is: C://Program Files (x86)/Nutrient Management.
  6. Close the file location: C://Program Files/Nutrient Management.
  7. The Nutrient Management Program should now work as normal, but with updated information.

Note* – If you are running Windows 7 on your computer, stop after Step 5) and read the following page. There are additional steps to follow.

Once you’ve completed Step 5) above, and you are still at the location ‘C://Program Files (x86)/Nutrient Management’, notice the folder headings that should appear similar to the following:

Click on the heading called ‘Compatibility files’. Within ‘Compatibility files’, if you then see a file labeled ‘NRCS.mdb’ listed you will need to delete the file. You will do this step just this one time for initial set-up only.

Now you can close all folders and open the updated Nutrient Management Program as you normally do.
